We have released v1.0.261. The theme of this release is learners see exactly what they should, and assignments and tests work as intended. We went through the help articles one by one and checked each against how the product actually behaves; this release fixes what that review found. It covers what the learner portal shows, learning path assignments, answering and submitting tests, search, AI material generation and HR department management.
Highlights
What learners can open
Only published courses that are assigned or public. Drafts and unassigned courses can't be opened.
Learning path assignments
Courses from an assigned path now show in the learner's course and test lists and on HR's employee page.
Answering and submitting tests
Multiple-choice questions can be answered, and an empty submission no longer leaves a 0% record.
Search that stays current
Creating, editing, publishing or deleting a course shows up in search right away. API search no longer returns drafts.
AI material generation
AI material generation and slide generation now work from the curriculum screens.
HR and departments
The department field saves, the department Add member search works, and one person can't hold two memberships.
1. What learners can open in the learner portal
The learner portal kept other organizations' private content out, but inside the learner's own organization almost anything could be opened by URL: draft courses, private courses that weren't assigned, and tests from other learning paths. It now follows the rule below, which is the same rule the learner API uses.
| Item | What the learner can open |
|---|---|
| Course | Published, and either assigned (directly, through a learning path or through a department) or a public course. A course the learner has already started stays open from their history and certificates after the assignment ends |
| Lesson | A published lesson of a course they can open |
| Learning path | A public path, or one assigned to them or their department |
| Anything else | Shown as "not found" |
Lesson completion is also recorded only for lessons that belong to the course.
2. Learning path assignments reach the learner
- Courses from an assigned path now appear: assigning a learning path directly sometimes left its courses out of the learner's course list, on screen and in the API. Department assignments made from some screens had the same problem. Every way of assigning now works
- Assigning from the curriculum screens: members added with Manage members → Add on a learning path didn't appear in the learner's test list or on HR's employee page, and the path details page could fail with an error. Both are fixed
3. Answering and submitting tests
- Multiple-choice questions can be answered: the test editor offered a multiple-choice type, but the test page only allowed one choice, so a question with two or more correct options was always marked wrong. Learners now tick checkboxes, and the question is labelled "multiple choice (select all that apply)"
- Empty submissions are refused: a submission with no answers was recorded as a 0% fail in the learner's history, which they can't delete. On screen, the learner is sent back to the test to answer; the API returns
400. Lesson quizzes work the same way - Tests belong to their path: a test can no longer be taken under a learning path it doesn't belong to
4. Search that stays current
- Until now, search was updated only by CSV imports and public/private switches. Creating, editing, publishing or deleting a course now updates search automatically, whether it's done on screen, through the API or through MCP. Deleted courses drop out of search
- API search (
GET /api/v1/search) now filters with the same rules as the catalog, so draft courses never appear in results - The API that rebuilt the whole search index (
POST /api/v1/rag/index) has been retired. It is no longer needed, since the index updates on every save
5. AI material generation works from the curriculum screens
AI material generation (creating and editing materials) and slide generation for a lesson's supplementary materials didn't work in production. They now share the same generator as the API and work directly from the screens. The material edit screen not applying generated content is fixed as well.
6. Fixes to HR and consultant screens
- Employee department saves: the Department field on the employee edit form wasn't saved, and the department figures on the dashboard are grouped by it. Saving the form also no longer removes the learner role
- Department Add member search: typing emptied the list. It now filters by name or email. The pop-up's page also no longer carries unnecessary member details, only id, name, email and avatar
- One membership per person: the database now prevents the same person from holding two memberships in one organization, and using two seats
- Consultant organization edit: saving an organization's details no longer resets its plan to Free and its seats to five
7. Accurate descriptions of RAG
Some pages described RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) features as if they were available when they are not. We apologize and have corrected them.
- The RAG admin console was a prototype and has been taken offline
- The RAG page and the home page now describe what works today: published learning content can be searched and read through the API and MCP and used as a source for your own RAG pipeline. Built-in RAG is in design
- The developer docs for authentication, the SDK, RAG and webhooks were rewritten to match how they actually work, and the page for a Vectors API that doesn't exist was removed
8. MCP and API changes

What's next
We'll keep working through what the help review turned up. Next: tightening who can grant the organization admin role, improvements to the test list for learning apps, email confirmation and stronger sign-in protection, and better links and emails for people who use Manabu2 in English.
