Creating and Managing Courses – Curriculum Guide

Courses are the most basic building block of learning in Manabu2. Building on "Course design basics", this guide walks you through, in order, which buttons to press on screen to get a course built.

Start with the big picture

Building a course takes four steps. Keeping this flow in mind will save you from getting lost, rather than diving straight into the details.

STEP 1
Create the course shell

Decide on a title and description, and set up the container first.

STEP 2
Outline it with sections

Split the course into chapters and decide the order of the story.

STEP 3
Add lessons and materials

Add slides, videos, text and quizzes.

STEP 4
Publish and add to a path

Only once you've done all this does the course reach learners.

Open Course Management

In the left sidebar, click Course Management (コース管理). The URL is /en-US/{organization ID}/curriculum/courses.

You're on the right screen if the top of the page explains that this is where you create, edit and publish courses and manage your course list.

The screen layout

Action bar (top left)
  • Black New course (新規コース作成): create courses by hand, one at a time
  • White Bulk create/update (一括登録・更新): process many courses at once with a CSV
Quick filter (top right)

Type in the Filter by course name… (コース名で絞り込む…) box and the cards on the page are filtered as you type. Besides the course name, it also matches the audience and tags. Nothing reloads, so feel free to experiment.

Course cards (3-column grid)
  • Status badge in the top right: Draft (編集中) / Published (公開中)
  • Course title (large)
  • Description (cut off at 80 characters)
  • Audience and tag badges (if set)
  • Number of sections
  • The whole card is clickable and takes you to the course details
AI suggestions panel (right column)
  • Suggestions from AI (AI からの提案): proposes courses worth adding, based on your organization's information and existing courses
  • Additional requests (追加の要望(任意)) text box (for example, "make it for new hires" or "for non-engineers")
  • White Ask AI for suggestions (AI に提案してもらう) button

If you have no courses yet, the page tells you none have been created and that you can add one with New course. That's perfectly normal.

Common tasks

  1. Click the black New course (新規コース作成) button.
  2. On the form, fill in the course name (コース名, required), description, thumbnail image URL, Content language, Estimated minutes, Level, target audience (対象者の基準), tags, the Publish this course (コースを公開する) switch, the completion acknowledgment (修了時に誓約(内容を理解した旨の確認)を求める), and so on.
  3. Click Create (作成する) and a card is added to the list. If you left Publish this course switched off, it shows as Draft (編集中).
  4. Click the card to open the course details page, then start adding sections and lessons.
The title and description are the first things learners see. You can change them as often as you like, so it's fine to use placeholder wording for now and keep going.

Use this when you're not even sure which courses you should be building.

  1. If you have a goal in mind, add a short note in Additional requests (追加の要望(任意)) near the bottom of the right column (optional).
  2. Click the white Ask AI for suggestions (AI に提案してもらう) button.
  3. Within a few seconds to a few tens of seconds, several candidate courses appear.
  4. On a suggestion you like, click the blue Add (追加する) button. The course is created and the page reloads.
Note: When it's first added, the course is only an empty shell with no sections or lessons. You'll need to build out the content separately.

  1. Click the white Bulk create/update (一括登録・更新) button.
  2. The Bulk create/update courses (コース一括登録・更新) page opens.
  3. Following the format shown on the page (Title, Description, ThumbnailUrl, IsPublished, IsPublic), choose a CSV file or paste the CSV in directly. A row whose course name matches an existing course updates that course; any other row creates a new one.
  4. Click Save all (一括保存) and a results table appears, showing each row as created (作成), updated (更新), skipped (スキップ) or error (エラー).

This is handy when you're taking stock of existing courses or migrating from another system.

  1. Type a keyword into the quick filter box in the top right.
  2. Only cards whose course name, audience or tags match the keyword stay on screen (the page doesn't reload).

  1. Click a course card to open the course details.
  2. From the menu in the top right, open Edit (編集), turn the Publish this course (コースを公開する) switch on or off, and click Update (更新する).
  3. Back on the course list, the badge in the top right changes to Draft (編集中) or Published (公開中).
Publishing alone doesn't put a course in front of learners. It only appears once you add it to a learning path and assign that path to employees.

Next steps: building the course content

Once the course shell exists, build it out from the details page in this order.

  1. Add sections (split the course into chapters).
  2. Add lessons inside each section (slides, video, text, quizzes).
  3. If needed, attach materials (PDFs, reference documents) to lessons.
  4. Add a quiz at the end of a lesson.
  5. Publish the course and add it to a path.

For the design thinking behind this, see Course design basics and How to divide sections and lessons.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause and fix
You can't open Course Management (access is denied) You may not have permission. The Curriculum screens require the curriculum manager role (or organization admin rights). Check with HR that the role has been assigned to you.
AI suggestions say they failed (AI 提案の取得に失敗しました) This may be a temporary error on the OpenAI side. Wait a while and try again.
Lots of errors in a CSV bulk import Check the column order and the header row against the template. Also make sure the file is saved as UTF-8.
You published a course but learners can't see it Either the course isn't part of a path, or the path hasn't been assigned to employees. Check on the Learning Path Management (学習パス管理) page.
AI keeps suggesting the same things Add specific conditions in the Additional requests box to vary the results. Filling in your organization's information also leads to more varied suggestions.
